What is Internet?
You can do all of this by connecting a computer to the Internet, which is also referred to as going "online." When someone says a computer is online, it simply means it is actively connected to the global Internet network.
Two Main Internet Services and Their Uses
The two primary services utilized across the internet are Web Browsing and Electronic Mail (E-Mail).
1. Web Browsing
A web browser is an application software that provides a window to the World Wide Web. Browsers are specifically designed to display pages of information located at websites worldwide. Popular browsers include Chrome, Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and Internet Explorer. Users can search for information using search engines accessed through these browsers.
2. Electronic Mail (E-Mail)
Electronic mail is one of the most widely used applications of the internet, providing very fast delivery of messages to any enabled site across the network. Communication through e-mail is quicker, more reliable, and allows seamless connection with friends, institutions, and colleagues.
Advantages of E-Mail:
- Fast Communication: Messages can be sent to any location worldwide instantly.
- Cost-Free Service: With existing internet access, e-mail services can be availed free of charge.
- Simple to Use: Following the initial setup of an e-mail account, the interface is straightforward and user-friendly.
- More Efficient: Messages, pictures, and attachments can be broadcast to multiple recipients simultaneously with a single action.
