Postulates of Bohr's Atomic Theory

The important postulates of Bohr's atomic theory are as follows:

  1. Circular Orbits: In an atom, negatively charged electrons revolve around the positively charged nucleus in definite circular paths called orbits or shells.
  2. Stationary Energy States: Each orbit or shell has a fixed energy, and these circular orbits are known as stationary orbital shells.
  3. Quantization of Angular Momentum: Electrons revolve only in those specific orbits for which their orbital angular momentum is an integral multiple of $\frac{h}{2\pi}$.
    $L = mvr = \frac{nh}{2\pi}$     (where $n = 1, 2, 3, \dots$)
  4. Energy Transitions: The electrons in an atom move from a lower energy level to a higher energy level by gaining the required energy, and an electron moves from a higher energy level to a lower energy level by losing energy.
